In black forest we put a lot of efforts into keeping our wine knowledge up-to-date - in addition to, of course, reading about what opinions other wine connaisseurs out there have. On this page we mention wines that appears to be particularly outstanding.

Gravitas
White Wine   Dry
Taste: Full bodied, Oak barrel
New Zealand
2006
0.75 litre
14% alc.
1,400.0 Baht (incl. VAT)
Overall style: A very crisp and clean white wine Chablis like in style Grape Clones: Mendoza, UCD 15 on rootstock: Schwartzman, 101-14 Tastes/Aromas: A bracingly clean and refreshing palate with a bouquet primarily of citrus. While a classic New World fruit-driven Chardonnay, it has unusually powerful (for NZ) mineral and creamy notes. Moderate alcohol (13.5%, depending on vintage) great length and a beautiful crisp acid base are hallmarks of this wine. We keep this wine dry (less than 2g/L) to best match food.

2005/06
0.75 litre
13.5% alc.

Overall style: More restrained than is typical for New World. Grape Clones: BDX317, MS on rootstock: Schwartzman, 3309 Making: Hand harvested at very low yields, whole bunch pressed in the winery Ageability: The wine retains a remarkably concentrated range of aromas and taste even after three years of aging (which is very unusual for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc)Typically, these wines will age well, perhaps up to 5 years in very good vintages. Tastes/Aromas: One of the most concentrated Sauvignon Blancs from NZ with one of the longest finishes of any wine from this country a set of tastes and aromas that continues evenly and with a long duration. Bouquet evolves over time from predominantly gooseberries to citrus/grapefruit. Our vineyards particular terroir also gives us a slight mineral note that is unusual for Marlborough. Suggestion of oak (but none used this perception comes from keeping the wine on lees for several months). We like to aim for moderate alcohol (around 13%, depending on vintage) and the is always beautifully balanced with a crisp acid base. All of our Sauvignon Blancs are dry ensuring that they match food. "Gold Medal-Chalenge Int. Du Vin 2008(France)" "Silver Medal-San Francisco Int. Wine Competition 2007 (USA)" "Silver Medal-Mundus Vini Int. wine Show 2007 (Germany)"
